Around Page Arizona

It´s a 215 mile drive from the south rim of the Grand canyon to the North rim.  On the way a 20 mile detour takes you to Page, a town created around 1960 during the construction of the Glen Canyon dam, the second largest in the USA.  The water in the Colorado River is shared by 7 states.  The lower basin states of Utah, Nevada and California are guaranteed a certain amount of water each year - the dam created the 186-mile long Lake Powell, which supplies this water. It´s level goes up and down depending on rain and snowfall.  Right now it is low at only about 60% full.  The bridge was built in 1960 before the dam as it was essential for getting materials across the Colorado River.

Also near Page is Antelope canyon, a narrow slot canyon with interesting sandstone and lighting. It´s on Navajo Indian land and you must do an organised tour - it´s very crowded in the canyon as so many do this tour.  A real money spinner!
